The instructions on the package always result in mediocre rice. Here’s my trial-and-error specs for perfect and consistent rice.

Jasmine

  • Through wash - 3-4 times until water runs clear
  • [Optional] Presoak 30-60 min
  • 1.1 : 0.9, water to rice
  • Bring to boil
  • 10 min on minimum
  • 10 min off heat
  • Fluff and leave slightly covered but allowing steam out

Basmati

  • Wash 2-3 times
  • [Optional] Presoak
  • 1 : 1.5, water to rice ratio
  • While water boils in kettle, toast the rice on high heat 2-3 min
  • !!!Carefully add hot water
  • 15 min on minimum heat (?)
  • Remove heat, place towel under lid to prevent drip
  • 10 min rest
  • Fluff

Sushi (In progress…)

  • Super thorough wash - 6-7 times
  • 0.9 : 1, water to rice (by weight)
  • Starting from room temp…
  • 5 min at level 6
  • 12 min rest
  • 1oz of sushi vinegar
